Julian joined Prof. Russell McKenna's Chair of Energy Systems Analysis at ETH Zurich as a PhD student in February 2022. His work will focus on investigating the benefit of having higher technical detail of low-carbon technologies in energy system models. His scientific interests are renewable heat supply, the utilisation of waste heat, and the sustainable production of hydrogen and other chemicals.

Before joining the group, Julian worked as a research assistant in the field of computer-aided molecular and process design at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Julian studied Chemical and Process Engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany and earned his master's degree in 2019. In his master thesis, he developed and applied a numerical model to investigate the effective transport properties in electrode coatings of Li-ion batteries. During his studies, Julian focussed on heat transfer, thermodynamics and computational fluid dynamics and spent a semester abroad at the University of Leeds in the UK.
