Prof. Russell McKenna on Energy Production in Switzerland in the NZZ
“If we exclude individual measures, it just means that we need more of the others.”
With increasing reliance on wind and solar energy, balancing fluctuating outputs is a major challenge. In Switzerland, experts are exploring nuclear energy as a steady complement to renewables, to help ensure grid stability and (at least partly) fill the "winter gap."
Andreas Pautz and Russell McKenna of the Center for Nuclear Engineering and Sciences talked with the NZZ about how this hybrid model could support Switzerland’s energy transition, potentially increasing energy system resilience whilst reducing costs.
