New publication about hydrogen storage in offshore hydrocarbon fields

The Chair has recently collaborated with the external pageUniversity of Aberdeen in a research paper examining the potential for hydrogen storage in offshore hydrocarbon fields and investigating potential synergies with offshore wind in the UK Continental Shelf.
The paper finds that a total 3454 TWh of hydrogen could be stored, significantly exceeding the 120TWh seasonal domestic demand. Multi-criteria decision analysis, in consultation with an expert focus group, identified optimal fields for coupling with offshore wind, which could facilitate large-scale renewable hydrogen production and storage. The full paper is open access and can be read external pagehere.
