Farewell to Visiting PhD Student Philipp Gunkel

Philipp was a visiting Ph.D. student from the Technical University of Denmark who worked on the green transition in regional and local energy systems in combination with policy.

While in our group, he worked with Russell McKenna and Febin Kachirayil on a study to examine the positive effects of redesigning the electricity tax. Denmark's current electricity tax design is seen as one of the major barriers to utilizing the flexibility of electric vehicles and batteries to contribute to the stability of the energy system. Subsequently, Philipp aims to model households with a new tax design that not only increases fairness among different socio-economic household categories (e.g. poor vs. rich) but also allows utilizing all equipment to its fullest potential.

Philipp visited the Chair from April to June 2022, and the collaboration will result in a peer-reviewed article published in a high-ranked journal. We thank him for his time here and wish him the best of luck with his next steps.
